New Eyewear Sales Regulations in B.C., Canada Will Benefit Consumers
Without having to renew a prescription from an eye-health professional, British Columbians now have more freedom and choices to buy eyeglasses online.

VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, May 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eyeglasses123, a leading international online eyeglasses store, applauds the Government of British Columbia's new regulations that make it safer and more convenient for British Columbians to buy eyeglasses online. The new regulations that came into effect this month remove most of the restrictions that allowed only opticians, optometrists, or workers supervised by them, to dispense glasses or contact lenses.

"We hear from our clients that they want to have the choice to buy their glasses online because it's more affordable and convenient for them," said Mitchell Gantman, President of Eyeglasses123. "These new government regulations in B.C. will not prevent patients from getting periodic eye exams through their eye doctors, which are important for health reasons. Rather, the regulations will give consumers more options where they can safely buy their eyewear once they get a prescription. And by having the correct measurements, this will prevent issues of headaches and eye strain from improper fittings."

The new regulations under the B.C. Health Professions Act now require optometrists and opticians to give clients and their third-party eyewear seller, free of charge, a copy of their prescription or sight-test assessment. The prescription or sight-test assessment will include the measurement of distance between the client's pupils, which is required for the proper fitting of glasses.

B.C. is the first province in Canada to let consumers shop online without renewing a prescription from an eye-health professional. Eyeglasses123 commends the BC Government for leading the way in modernizing laws to give consumers the freedom to make an informed choice on where to purchase eyewear.
