eyecarecenter Wins Innovation in Business Award from Cary Chamber
The Cary Chamber of Commerce presented eyecarecenter with its Innovation in Business Award at the Annual Small Business Awards ceremony

CARY, NC, June 10, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cutting-edge technologies and programs are helping patients see better, enjoy better ocular health, and receive fast, convenient service from eyecarecenter in Cary and Raleigh. On May 14 at the Embassy Suites in Cary, eyecarecenter was recognized with the 2009 Innovation in Business Award during the Cary Chamber of Commerce's annual Small Business Awards ceremony.

In winning the Innovation in Business Award, eyecarecenter had to demonstrate how it implemented or utilized creative or unusual elements in its business, and how these innovations enabled the practice to excel in today's business environment.

"We're extremely pleased to be recognized by the Cary Chamber for our innovative approaches to eye care and patient service," said Dr. Don Cloninger, OD, a partner in eyecarecenter's offices in Cary at Barnes & Noble Plaza and Preston Corners, and on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh. "We've always been committed to providing the best care to our patients."

To capitalize on scientific advancements within the industry, the eyecarecenter location at Barnes & Noble Plaza now employs the latest equipment such as OPTOS for retinal examination, which permits patients to receive a full exam without the need for dilation, making exams more convenient for patients returning to work. This system aids in the early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy, hypertension, macular degeneration and retinal detachment. Glaucoma follow-up appointments are now enhanced due to the addition of OCT, or Optical Coherence Tomography, equipment.

Optometric physicians at eyecarecenter are trained in the latest contact lens programs such as CRT, or Corneal Refractive Therapy, a technologically advanced, non-surgical process that reshapes the cornea while patients sleep. They also offer many specialty and hard-to-fit contact lenses, including bifocals and astigmatic corrections.

Additional innovations implemented at eyecarecenter include Web access to patient information forms (that they can fill out in advance and reduce waiting room time); online contact lens reordering; free WiFi in the waiting area; the transfer of patient records to a new electronic system that provides better security and accessibility; and a computerized inventory management systems utilizing barcodes for faster point-of-sale purchases. The Barnes & Noble Plaza location also provides wheelchair-accessible exam lanes that allow some patients to be examined without having to leave their wheelchairs.
