The Eye Clinic of Florida named Crystalens Center of Excellence
The Eye Clinic of Florida, located in the Tampa Bay area, is a Crystalens Center of Excellence recipient

ZEPHYRHILLS, FL, May 12, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Eye Clinic of Florida, located in the Tampa Bay area, is a Crystalens Center of Excellence. The designation comes from Bausch & Lomb, manufacturer of the replacement lens that offers cataract patients the possibility of a full range of vision after surgery.

The Eye Clinic of Florida is one of just 100 centers in the U.S. to receive the prestigious designation. Dr. Ahad Mahootchi credits the award to a combination of experience, number of surgeries performed, and credibility. "We were among the first to offer Tampa Bay residents the Crystalens option, and our combination of experience and success makes us the best choice in the area," said Dr. Mahootchi.

Cataract is not a growth but rather a yellowing of the natural lens in the eye. It is usually a gradual process in which the lens becomes less clear and harder to see through. The lens, when unclear, is unable to focus light the way it should. Many who suffer from cataracts choose to have cataract surgery when they no longer feel comfortable with their daily activities. Clear lens implants are used to replace the cloudy natural lens during surgery. Crystalens is one of many options available and the favorite of Dr. Mahootchi because it offers more freedom from glasses and fewer undesirable side effects than other options.

In practice in Zephyrhills since 1997, Dr. Mahootchi is one of the leading eye surgeons in the Tampa Bay area. He has helped Floridians see better through more than 8,000 eye surgeries. Dr. Mahootchi was North Tampa's first certified Crystalens surgeon and is one of the most experienced eye surgeons in the country with astigmatism correcting implants.

As a replacement for a cloudy cataract lens or a mis-powered human lens, Crystalens moves to focus at different distances similar to the way the human natural lens works when healthy. This allows eyes to focus at different distances without the aid of glasses or bifocals. Ordinary lens implants correct either for distance or near, but not both, making patients dependent on eyeglasses for complete vision.

According to Dr. Mahootchi, patients expect to see better after cataract surgery, but many don't know they could see well without glasses and even reading glasses if they choose Crystalens . For those wanting more freedom from glasses in the distance, up close, and everything in the middle, nothing compares to the natural movement of Crystalens in the opinion of Dr. Mahootchi and the other expert doctors at The Eye Clinic of Florida.
